Malago Press launch

Malago Press launches marking new chapter in Bristol’s literary scene

PRESS RELEASE

A new, Bristol-based, independent imprint, Malago Press, has been launched today, marking a new chapter in the city’s literary scene.

Malago Press is dedicated to publishing high-quality works across a range of genres, including literary, contemporary, historical, crime and speculative fiction. It was founded by the Just Write Bristol group, a collective of authors from Bristol, including high-profile and award-winning writers.

The imprint’s inaugural publication Quite Weird is an anthology that showcases the unique voices and storytelling prowess of the Just Write Bristol group.

Malago Press is also home to the DI Crow series of crime thrillers, set in Bristol and written by HJ Reed. The four-book series features the tough, but lovable, veteran DI Crow. In the latest instalment, Thicker Than Water, Crow is called on to solve a knotty puzzle in which two elderly victims are found murdered in identical fashion at the same time, but miles apart. As the body count rises, Crow uncovers a chilling link to 1960s baby trafficking and is forced to confront a ruthless figure at the heart of organised crime.

HJ Reed, Author of the series and Malago Press Co-founder, said:

“I am delighted to have found a home for my DI Crow crime series at Malago Press. I have lived in the city most of my life, and, naturally, it is the perfect setting for my crime novels. To have them published here too is a huge bonus. It’s a very exciting time!”

Heather Child, Author and Co-founder of Malago Press said:

“We have set up Malago Press to be a responsive, elegant and imaginative channel between creators and readers, further enriching Bristol’s vibrant literary scene.”

The imprint’s name pays homage to the Malago, a hidden river that flows beneath Bristol, symbolising the undercurrents of creativity and imagination that the press aims to bring to the surface.
